Paul & Maria Bidwell moved to Tasmania from Western Australia several years ago to semi-retire and downsize their operation of growing avocados.

Tasmania's fertile land, cold climate and their expertise have enabled them to provide consumers with high quality, fully mature avocados with a rich, nutty, buttery flavour to satisfy the most discerning taste buds.

Tasmanian chef Massimo Antonio Mele took Sydney Direct Fresh Produce owner Luke Kohler to Avoland Avocados to meet the grower and find out some interesting facts about this much loved tropical fruit.

Discover Pygendairy Farm handcraft one of Australia’s most awarded cloth bound cheddar cheeses. The tradition of making cheese in the Pyengana valley dates back to the 1880s when James LeFevre returned to make cheese on the property Glen View. Several European families settled in the Pyengana Valley in this time and in the 1890s the first cheese factory was established in the area by the Jestrimski’s and others joined the cheese making tradition of the valley.

Blackman Bay Oysters is a boutique oyster farming company operating out of the pristine waters of the south-east coast of Tasmania. Our focus is growing and hand selecting pacific oysters for premium restaurants, festivals and corporate events around Australia.   The nutrient rich waters of the wild Southern Ocean roll in from both ends of Blackman Bay and the surrounding landscape is largely isolated and free from human and agricultural impact, culminating in an extremely pure and healthy estuarine environment for our oysters to flourish.  These conditions have given the bay a reputation for some of the world's most pure and sweet tasting oysters.

ROBBIN ISLAND WAGYU | MUNCH ON TASMANIA

Fourth generation cattle farmers John, Keith, Alex and Chauncey Hammond have been breeding wagyu on Robbins Island since the early 1990’s. During the iconic seasonal musters , bands of horsemen swim the cattle through saltwater channels at low tide to move them peacefully between grazing areas. Situated on the North Western tip of Tasmania, the island has a temperate climate, clean air and a pristine coastal environment.

Guy says “I’m a fifth generation Tasmanian farmer who is not only proud to be Tasmanian but fortunate enough to own and share my beautiful farm with hundreds of happy free range pigs, cows, sheep, chickens and a host of international and local visitors.

In 2009 with close friend Eliza Wood, we purchased 37 hectares of beautiful red dirt behind the seaside village of Penguin in north-west Tasmania, with the dream to create a free range pig farm that showcased both happy free range pigs and how delicious free range pork actually is.

Out the back of a restaurant in Hobart’s northern suburbs, a blonde-haired boy is sitting on a milk crate among pots and pans, waiters and wine bottles, watching his mother and father cook and hearing them recollect the days of old in Italy.

It wouldn’t be Massimo Mele’s first introduction to Italia. He was born in Tasmania then spent his early years in Naples, beneath the shadow of Mount Vesuvius playing on cobblestones and practicing the language of his forebears.
